Toshiba’s new glasses-free 3D display tilts images and viewing angles your way
This week we are taking a look at 3D displays and since Autostereoscopic screens may seem like the next big thing, it has been found that the small viewing angle this type of screen can be used for does not make them the best option for viewing 3D content. Toshiba Mobile Display however, have come up with an ingenious solution which involves a self adjusting display. By adding a six-axis accelerometer in this 12.1″ tablet, Toshiba have allowed viewers to take a look around 3D objects on the screen. This has been brought to life by using software algorithms rather than the lens-and-camera assembly that Microsoft has been working on. Toshiba believes this will be a huge hit with the likes of online retailers, after all who wouldn’t want to play with a prospective purchase in 3D space?

PS3 to start streaming ITV and Channel 4 content in the UK this Week
There has been reports this week in the guardian that both the ITV Player and Channel 4′s 4OD will soon be available on Sony’s PS3. ITV Player and 4OD have existed for some time now on the web however it is reported that they have both signed deals with Sony, and have gone on to say that they believe overall traffic will rise by 10% as a result. ITV has left the door open so that they can add their service to ‘other consoles’, internet TV’s and tablets such as the iPad and Galaxy. Channel 4 has however found both Microsoft and Nintendo uninterested in making deals for the Xbox 360 and the Wii. Sony is obviously making a big effort with their content having also recently brought Love Film into their arena and completing their roll out of the Qriocity on-demand facility across Europe.
VGA Given 5 Years to Live
Pretty much since the birth of the personal computer, the VGA port, has connected computers to their monitors. However news from chip manufacturers Intel and AMD, as well as other various computer vendors, has said that their support for the seemingly outdated technology will be phased out by 2015.
The general consensus is that they will look towards the newer DisplayPort and High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) ports connections instead. The primary reason for this are because of the improvement on space saving on devices such as laptops as well as their power consumption advantages over the VGA ports plus they are able to support much higher screen resolutions due to the fact they are a digital technology and will pave the way for smarter, faster and stronger applications on PCs.
The chip makers seem to favour DisplayPort 1.2 for PC monitors and HDMI 1.4a for connectivity to TV screens. Samsung and LG, already offer products with DisplayPort technology embedded into them.
